Ed.D. Program

eddgraduates

Thank you for your interest in the UCSC Ed.D. program

Our Ed.D. program is designed to prepare educational leaders for the field; the dissertations will apply cutting edge research in action-research based reform efforts. Students will focus on the application of educational theory and research in their projects. Research projects will improve educational practice, with emphasis on improving education for low-income, racially, culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Research projects will often be situated within the student's professional work site.

The new EdD program will be partly integrated with our PhD program. Many classes will be joint classes and the two programs will substantially overlap. The main times of the Ed.D. classes will be afternoons and evenings in the middle of the week. This is a full time program, which will be exceptionally demanding in addition to your other work. Summer courses will be optional, but likely a time for independent studies, research, writing. The program will be designed on a four year time line.

Dissertation topics will continue to be highly flexible. The key will continue to be establishing a topic with an advisor and committee.
