Mathematics education of English learners; large-scale dataset quantitative analysis; urban education issues; how school context factors such as academic tracking and the segregation of low-income students impact the mathematics achievement of English Learners (ELs). His current study, funded by UC ACCORD, investigates whether or not high school students’ access to social capital (access to resources that provide academic and social support from parents, teachers, peers, and in-school adults) differs for students of different racial/ethnic backgrounds in diverse high schools, and in turn, how this mediates their academic achievement.
