Pilgrims & Puritans Lesson

Brief Description: History lesson about the reasons why the Pilgrims and Puritans left Europe to create settlements in New England
Classroom context:

This lesson took place in a self-contained class in a dual-immersion (Spanish/English) K-5 elementary school. The 25 students in the class have significant language, and socio-economic diversity. About 75% of the students in the class are English learners or have limited English proficiency (LEP), with most having intermediate or higher level language skills in English. This lesson occurred in late October, about 2 months after the start of the school year. This lesson was part of a unit about the European explorers, and the English colonies in North America. Later in the school year, the class will be studying the American Revolutionary War.
