View News We are currently accepting applications for our Masters/Teacher Credential ProgramThe master of arts in education teacher credential program prepares teachers for California's culturally and linguistically diverse children and youth. The M.A. in Education degree/CA Credential Program is earned by completion of a five-quarter program comprising two summers and one academic year. Graduates of the program are prepared to teach K-12 English language learners. The program also offers the Bilingual, Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development (BCLAD) emphasis teaching credential. The BCLAD emphasis authorizes primary language instruction and dual language immersion education. The UCSC Education Department's BCLAD language of emphasis is Spanish. The program seeks to prepare informed, articulate, analytical leaders of educational reform within schools and the community. In addition, students are expected to integrate theory and practice in courses, classroom placements, and research projects. Master's candidates are admitted to begin the program in the summer quarter only, and no candidate is admitted on a part-time basis. The preliminary multiple subjects teaching credential for elementary school teachers (used in self-contained elementary classrooms-typically grades K-6-where all subjects are taught by the same teacher), and the preliminary single subject teaching credential for secondary teachers (used in a departmentalized setting where the teacher is generally responsible for one subject, typically grades 7-12), are available. The single subject program offers the following subject areas: mathematics, English, social sciences, and science. Programs of study are subject to change.
