Research interests include higher education persistence, achievement, and policy; college readiness/preparedness; self-efficacy; identity; sense of belonging; and mathematics education.


Rsearch focus are Latinx students; first-generation college students; and linguistically diverse students

Biography, Education and Training

Edgar holds a MA in Education from UCSC. Employment highlights while at UCSC include work with the Science Education & Mentorship In Latino Lives in Academia (SEMILLA) grant under UCSC's Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives umbrella as a data analyst and internal evaluator. Design and instruction of LALS 15: Truth, Justice, and Statistics. Several appointments in the Psychology department as a teaching assistant in courses that include Research Methods and Psychological Statistics. In addition, employment by SJSU's Counselor Education MA program as a Lecturer for the EDCO 221: Research in Counselor Education course.


Edgar also holds a MA in Counseling & Student Personnel from SJSU where he worked as a researcher for the federally funded GEAR UP grant, an instructor for EOP, an assistant residential life coordinator for University Housing Services, and a graduate student assistant for the Athletics Department.


Edgar recieved his BA in Women’s Studies with a concentration in LGBT Studies and a minor in Education from UCLA.
